Biden Admins Ask Drug Convicts to Apply For Clemency

The Biden administration is said to be taking baby steps toward granting presidential relief to people on home confinement for federal drug convictions. The Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) is asking eligible convicts to fill out clemency applications. Drug convicts who have up to four years left in their sentences went into home confinement under the coronavirus pandemic relief bill the CARES Act. White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki was asked about the BOP action during a briefing on Friday. She deferred to the Justice Department for more answers but said “the president has been clear about his openness to using clemency powers.” We suppose that this is an interesting policy considering the infamous 1994 crime bill written by Biden put so many of these drug users behind bars in the first place. It is better late than never to right the wrongs of the past.

This applies to MJ because we are witnessing in real time the slow repeal of prohibition. Even the hardest proponents of criminalizing drugs like Biden are softening their positions leading to the inevitable but slow federal legalization of Cannabis.
